Mother Russia monument, Volvograd. (Enlarge picture for best effect.)

Mother Russia is a worthy tribute to the defenders of Stalingrad (now Volvograd} in World War 11.

The huge statue is bigger than the Statue of Liberty and forms the hub of a memorial site on Мама́ев Курга́н - or the Hill of Mamai.

The hill is named after a medieval commander of the Tatar Golden Horde.

"The Motherland Calls" was the largest statue in the world when erected in 1967.

Levitated Apples acknowledges the Pizdaus Photo Blog for this photograph.
