Levitated Apples is delighted to salute the Traditional Cowboys Arts Association on its Tenth Anniversary - and to acknowledge the accomplishments of this select group of North American craftsmen.
Exemplifying the standard of work being created is this intricate flask and shot glass set created as a tribute to the association by silversmith Scott Hardy of Longview, Alberta.
Faultlessly crafted in silver and gold, the set fits in a custom-made bloodwood presentation box with a sculpted bucking horse closure.
The flask, with its distinctive forward lid, holds 20 ounces of spirits and weighs approximately three pounds when empty.
The entire set required 330 square inches of sterling silver sheet, 217 inches of sterling silver wire and more than an ounce of 14K gold.
Its creation involved design, spinning, forming, sawing, soldering (143 different steps), sculpting and countless hours of hand engraving by a contemporary master of the art.
Hardy notes, “This project took every piece of artistic, creative and technical ability I possess and it was a beautiful journey!”
The bloodwood box for the flask set was specially commissioned from wood craftsman John Morel, and is completed with a hand-engraved and filigreed sterling silver hinge. A sterling silver stop holds the lid in position when open.
The shot glasses, hand-engraved with 14K gold flower and sterling silver overlay scrolls, hold an ounce of spirits and each weighs a quarter of a pound.
Not surprisingly, the set generated great interest when the TCAA Exhibition and Sale opened at Oklahoma City's National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, selling within hours for $35,700.00.
