Matthew Croft may restore your faith in British typographical design.

To those of us still shuddering in embarrassment over the UK's 2012 Olympic symbol, the innovative work of Matthew Croft comes as something of a reassurance.

The Bath Spa and Central St. Martins graduate approaches typography in a manner that recognizes the evolution of communication, retaining the flow and grace of pen-based symbols but exploring new ways of achieving the letterforms.

Typical of his work is this installation of a flexible typographic system printed on sheets of A4 paper, the numerous photocopied elements combining to construct letterforms.

If you sometimes get depressed over what passes for design these days, perhaps you owe yourself a visit to his website.

(Levitated Apples is indebted to the 'It's Nice That" design site for the typographic system photograph.)
