Two of the greatest antagonists in history shared a common passion.
Both Adolf Hitler and Winston Churchill were painters; Hitler being a former art student who aspired to artistic greatness, Churchill taking up the palette comparitively late in life.
To compare the two is revealing although your judgements will obviously stem from your personal tastes.
To this writer, however, there is an obvious difference.
The Nazi fanatic who sought to rebuild the western world to his own crude ideals demonstrates a constricted style and laboured draftsmanship which reflects a closed mind adamantly convinced of its own infallibiloity.
By comparison, the British leader seems to plunge into every scene with the boldness that characterized his life.
But you be the judge.
Above is a sampling of the works of Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill - who took up painting at the age of forty and quickly became an accomplished painter.
Below are works by Adolf Hitler - some of the Fuhrer's compositions which raised close to $150,000 when they came up for auction.
