Eros 2011: 9th February to 13th March, 2011 at The Arbor Gallery.

Eros 2011
Feb 9 - Mar 13, 2011
The work of one of our favourite contributors, Susan Jephcott, has been creating some excitement at The Arbour Gallery's Eros 2011 Exhibition in Vankleek Hill, Ontario.

Described as a 'very sexy exhibition' compiled just in time for Valentine's day, Eros 2011 provides the perfect setting for the artist's newest creations - a series of paintings exploring the dreams and fantasies of women, and particularly those beset by despair and loneliness.

Susan Jephcott explains the examples shown here as follows:

(1.) "Poolside Scene is a comment on the incongruity of contemporary relationships; how it often seems that women's constant striving to be physically desirable is artificially driven by men who are fat and out of shape themselves!"

(2.) "Reve Bizaare recaptures a dream I had with the double entendre of having a black cat sleeping on my lap."

(3.)
"Mes Etoiles sont Noires is intended to show how a woman in despair can, through her imagination, assume the strength of the centaur to overcome her loneliness or isolation.

(4)
"Lady Magicks a Bull again emphasizes that women can create anything with determination, strength and desire."

(5)
"Lady Nursing a Dragon suggests that, sometimes, the invisible can become real, even if it's to yourself alone."

A native of Hudson, Quebec, Susan Jephcott has been living in Vankleek Hill, since 1977. Her work is well-known in eastern Ontario and much sought-after by collectors.

Besides such regional galleries as The Three Owls Studio & Gallery, Vankleek Hill, and Le Petit Pain Café, Hawkesbury, Ont., you'll find her reprsented at Club Bonito Gallery, Semana, Dominican Republic; and Musee Fort Napoleon, Iles des Saintes, Guadeloupe.

Her work is also found in private collections in Canada, USA., England, France, West Indies, Australia & Singapore.

Also represnted in the Eros 2011 exhibition are Edwina Billyk - painting; John Sims - painting; Shanna Steals - painting and embroidery; Sharon VanStarkenburg - mixed media; and Erica Taylor - various media.
