A mysterious, giant hand rises from the Chilean desert.

About seventy-five kilometres south of the town of Antofagasta, in the Atacama Desert,  this eleven-metres-tall hand protrudes from the sand.  Mano de Desierto was created by Chilean sculptor Mario Irarrázabal in the early 1980s. It was financed by a local booster organization called Corporación Pro Antofagasta.
