Created five thousand years ago. The Sleeping Lady of Malta.
This stone figurine from Malta has been dated to 3300-3000 BCE. It was recovered from the lower level of a megalithic subterranean temple discovered by construction workers in the early Nineteen-Hundreds.
Over forty prehistoric temples have been discovered throughout the he Maltese islands.
The archipelago has been host to several ancient cultures and is home to some of the oldest free-standing structure in the world. The Skorba Temples are estimated to date from 5200 BCE.
It was home to a race of Neolithic builders whose temples show several specific similarities to the western European megaliths and at the same time, have a unique style of their own, suggesting a phase of independent 'evolution' on the islands.
