Here be dragons, still ...


St George is the mascot of Moscow, and images are found throughout the city. This photograph is of the World War 2 memorial, and the dragon in this case is covered in Nazi symbolism.

And, further demonstrating the power of myth, St. George is the patron saint of Aragon, Catalonia, England, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Palestine, Portugal, as well as Russia.

He is also a figurehead for the cities of Amersfoort, Beirut, Ferrara, Freiburg, Genoa, Ljubljana, and Moscow, as well as for a wide range of professions, organisations and disease sufferers.
