Will far better summarizes the national character than George (who seems to have been more Turkish than anything else).

This royal throne of kings, this scepter'd isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm,
this England.
Shakespeare's Richard II
George the Dragon Slayer earned his dubious credentials for slaying a dragon in Libya in the 3rd Century. He became the patron saint of England because he supposedly appeared as an apparition in the sky during the Crusades, frightening the Moslem enemies of the Crusaders.
So far as Levitated Apples is concerned, we would much rather salute a recognized genius than an Unidentified Flying Object.
