Traditionally known as a cow town, Denver seems to be changing its image in a big way.
This forty-feet-high sculpture of a bear is now a permanent installation at the Colorado Convention Center.
Weighing ten thousand pounds, the giant bear peers into the windows above the main entrance along Fourteenth Street, where he serves as an eye-catching fixture for visitors.
The $395,900 artwork - the creation of University of Denver associate professor Lawrence Argent - was fabricated in a northern California studio.
It has proven to be a highly effective tool in the expanded center's marketing plan - so much so that the official website and visitor documents simply urge visitors to ' Proceed to the Big Blue Bear to enter the Convention Center'.
And why not? It's impossible to miss.
